PAC and ACH Plants.

PolyAluminium Chloride (PAC) is one of the most efficient water treatment chemicals utilized today. As such it is suitable for wastewater treatment, drinking water treatment, biological wastewater treatment, chemical water treatment, pulp and paper production and aquaculture sludge treatment.

Plant concept options

  • The Polyaluminum Chloride (PAC) production plant consist of initial batch etching reaction of alumina with an aqueous solution of hydrochloric acid.  The PAC reaction occurs under high pressure and high temperature in internally stirred jacketed reactor produced entirely in house by 3V Glasscoat®. The liner is coated in a way, corrosion can be visually early recognized by colors of annealed layers. 
  • PolyAluminium Chloride production is one of the most exclusive process to be assigned for 3V Glasscoat equipment due to its high corrosive and abrasive effect of reactants which reactor needs to withstand. 
  • The clarified product is transferred into vessels where the product is taken to standard specification of requested PAC grades by addition of various basifiers (PAC9, 10, 12 HB) or alternatively dried (PAC30). 
  • Aluminium Sulfate production plant can be integrated into PAC production plant as further option. Aluminium Sulfate is used as water treatment chemical or admixed as basifier achieve certain properties of PAC. 
  • Ultra-High Basicity Aluminium Chlorohydrate (ACH) Plant:The Ultra-High Basicity Aluminium Chlorohydrate (ACH) plant is downstream option of PAC production. ACH is produced by a batch reaction between solid Alumina, submerged into liquid PAC18 and Hydrochloric Acid solution.  Despite lower production rates compared to PAC is of demand for some markets due to a high cationic charge which makes it very effective at removing even very small particles required for drinking water purification. In addition, it creates strong flocs that dewater well and leads to reduced levels of chemical sludge.  

Main performance parameters

PAC 18%: PAC 18 is mid-basicity liquid PAC, based on highly charged aluminium which results in lower dosage and therefore reduces sludge volume and pH adjustment demand. It also improves solids and/or phosphorous removal over conventional coagulants.

PAC 9% HB: PAC 9 is high-basicity liquid PAC  based on highly charged aluminium which results in lower dosage and therefore reduces sludge volume and pH adjustment demand. It also improves solids and/or phosphorous removal over conventional coagulants.

PAC 30%: mid-basicity dried powder form.Aluminium Sulfate Al2(SO4)3: Is frequently added as basifier of PAC. As reactants are used Aluminium Hydroxide and Sulfuric Acid: Process is frequently integral part of PAC synthesis.

ACH 23%: has a high cationic charge which makes it very effective at removing even very small particles required for drinking water purification. In addition, it creates strong flocs that dewater well and leads to reduced levels of chemical sludge.

Main equipment description

PAC plant normally consist of following sections:

  1.  Feedstock storage, transport and dosage
  2. First step leaching with HCl in pair of glass lined reactors producing PAC 18
  3. Filtration and intermediate storage
  4. Basicity adjustments, blending 
  5. Aluminium Sulfate as optional integrated plantStorage and filling station of product

Main auxiliaries needed that we normally do not include: 

Utilities such as steam, cooling water instrumentation air, storage tanks, civil works, local environmental permission, sewage system and sludge handling.
